The Symposium on Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters will be held Wednesday January 30, 2013 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the symposium will be held at the Hyatt in Jacksonville, Florida, in conjunction with the January standards development meetings of Committee.

Objective
The Symposium will focus on newly released critical continuous soil gas monitoring parameters associated with Industrial activity around the world. From oil and gas companies, chemical companies through small industrial sites, there is a growing need to understand and mitigate worst case/ explosive or high human health risk conditions. Dry cleaners, gas stations, refineries, fracking sites, landfills, landfill energy systems, machine shops, etc. all can exhibit Vapor Intrusion risk. Often driven by litigation, the interest in Vapor Intrusion (VI) into homes and buildings has skyrocketed. Groundwater cleanup costs are dwarfed by the potential for class action VI suits. Recent dynamic risk observations pose serious implications about conventional approaches, best management practices, due diligence and formerly closed sites, and create a need to identify and understand site-specific conditions that warrant continuous monitoring. As such, several regulatory entities are now advocating for continuous VI monitoring and sites are being reopened. The forthcoming reduction in the MCL's of TCE and its designation as a human carcinogen will have a dramatic effect on environmental site characterization, remediation and litigation.

A technical program (presentation times, paper titles, and presenters' names) will be posted on the ASTM website by late November.

Students – A student's fee is waived, provided that he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID.

All attendees, including presenters and ASTM members, are urged to register online for this event so that space requirements can be accommodated. Symposium attendees interested in receiving 0.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) should complete a CEU application form at the adjournment of the symposium, and then submit it to the ASTM staff member on site. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the symposium.

Group rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full but no later than December 16, 2012. ASTM rates are $155 single/double plus 14.13% tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.

U.S. GOVERNMENT RATES: The Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate of $80 plus 14.13% tax. IMPORTANT! ASTM rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, notice of cancellation must be received by 3:00pm the day prior to arrival.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE: Express Shuttle provides regular schedules shuttle service from Jacksonville International Airport to the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. The cost is $20 each way. Taxis cost approximately $40.

PARKING: Overnight parking is available at $20 for valet and $15 self parking with in and out privileges.

Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Jacksonville. The average temperatures in January range from a high of 65 degrees to a low of 42 degrees.
