ASTM WK42461

New Test Method for Density (Unit Weight) and Air Content (Pressure Method) of Freshly Mixed Roller-Compacted Concrete

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C09.45 | Committee C09 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1This test method covers the determination of density (unit weight) and air content of freshly mixed concrete using the apparatus described in ASTM C231/C231M and the impact hammer described in ASTM C1435/C1435M. 1.2This test method is intended for use with no-slump concrete made with relatively dense aggregates for which the aggregate correction factor can be satisfactorily determined by the technique described in Section 6. It is not applicable to concretes made with lightweight aggregates, air-cooled blast furnace slag, or aggregates of high porosity.

The standard will be used in the design of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) mixtures and to aid in controlling the quality of those mixtures during RCC construction.
