1. Scope

The scope of this standard is to develop and promulgate a definition for the term Structural Damage as it relates to forensic engineering incidents involving structures. Entities such as state legislatures, the legal profession and the insurance industry often times create laws, rules and contractual relationships based on standard engineering industry terminology. All to often the terms that they choose to use are either illdefined for forensic engineering applications or simply remain undefined altogether. This standard is need to address those engineering industry terms that remain either illdefined for forensic engineering applications or undefined. This standard is to be relied upon and used by those entities that rely upon forensic engineering such as state legislatures, the legal profession and the insurance industry.
