1. Scope
Batch, Continuous, and Discrete Manufacturing Processes; Large/SME manufacturers
The primary purpose of the guide is to define the methodology and measurement framework for improving the sustainability of manufacturing processes. The current use of ad-hoc methods to informally describe sustainability of manufacturing processes creates inefficiencies/disparities and hinders the ability of manufacturers to effectively compare different processes for decision making. Sustainable improvement of manufacturing processes utilizes sustainability performance metrics and evaluation criteria, corresponding information models, and process-specific data sets to establish targets. The guide provides a methodology to improve the sustainable performance of production processes through evaluations of relevant sustainability metrics. Manufacturing process and resource information models will support the proposed methodology. The guide will enable manufacturers to implement continuous improvement practices that direct sustainability impact across production plans, and optimize the production processes and routing decisions to maximize resource allocation and efficiencies according to enterprise sustainability goals. This guide will leverage evaluation criteria set forth in WK35702 Guide. The standard will support sustainable performance reporting and decision making for production processes, systems and products.
