Developed by Subcommittee: E60.13 | Committee E60 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

Terms and Definitions for beginning of life, middle of life, and end of life of products, processes, and services related to Sustainable Manufacturing. The standard will help to define comprehensive and unified taxonomy of terms, concepts, and definitions related to sustainable manufacturing. It is important to develop terms and concepts relative to sustainable manufacturing that is understood and accepted by all stakeholders that can be used to develop further documents. This effort will lead to a standardized nomenclature that is not just a dictionary, but a formal ontology. This standard will safeguard terminological consistencies by establishing a precise understanding of basic concepts, and providing an unambiguous and formalized general terms and definitions. The formalization of terms and concepts will also play a critical role in enabling advanced analysis. It is not the aim of this standard to duplicate definitions of terms adequately defined for general purposes in other authoritative international vocabularies but will provide mechanisms to connect to these vocabularies. Based on the results this standard can evolve into Sustainable Manufacturing Body of Knowledge (for example, similar to Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (www.swebok.org)).
