(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK33343 - New Test Method for Total Fluorine and Chlorine in Coal, Coke, and their Residues by Oxidative Pyrohydrolytic Combustion followed by Ion Chromatography Detection (Combustion Ion Chromatography-CIC)

Developed by Subcommittee: D05.29 | Committee D05 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This test method covers the determination of total fluorine and chlorine in coal, coke, and combustion residue matrices by oxidative pyrohydrolytic combustion followed by an ion chromatography finish. Informational values may also be obtained for total bromine and iodine using this method. The purpose of this test method is to measure total chlorine and fluorine in coal, coke, and combustion residue matrices. The chlorine content may be useful in the evaluation of slagging problems and corrosion in engineering processes. The fluorine content may be useful for the evaluation of potential fluorine emissions from coal combustion or conversion processes. This test method can be used for compliance determinations when acceptable to a regulatory authority using performance based criteria.

Keywords

coal, coke, coal residue, anion, halogen, ion chromatography, pyrohydrolysis, combustion,
