ASTM WK30107

Work Item: ASTM WK30107 - New Practice for Reporting Results of Testing of Specimens Prepared by Additive Manufacturing

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: F42.01 | Committee F42 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 This practice describes the procedure for reporting results of testing using existing standard test methods and specimens produced by additive manufacturing techniques. This practice establishes minimum data elements for two purposes: (1) establish industry wide standard material and process identification for data-reporting requirements and (2) provide a standard for the design of material property databases. It is intended for parts produced in homogeneous or near-homogeneous materials classifications. 1.2 Units--The values stated in SI units are required for all additive manufacturing related standards. However, when this standard is used in combination with any test method or equipment specified in inch-pounds units the results should be reported with mathematical conversions to SI units immediately following in parenthesis. The conversions shall be provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Because of the unique nature of parts produced by additive manufacting, it is essential to include more detail about the way parts were produced to ensure results are reproducible and comparable.
