This practice provides a process flow and a series of reference tables that can be used to determine if a specific polymeric material has the potential of containing a substance of interest.
Today, ensuring products to meet all applicable global chemical regulations is an increasing challenge for manufacturers, even for the most sophisticated manufacturer. As the number of regulated chemicals grows very fast and data collection from complex supply chains becomes more difficult, the industry must use a cost effective way to manage compliance. A risk based approach associated with due diligence verification process could be utilized for identifying substances of interest in products. This practice provides guidance and process flow for the identification of substances of interest in polymeric material. This practice can assist the user to determine if a specific polymeric material has the potential of containing substances of interest used as polymer additives (viz. flame retardants, plasticizers, stabilizers, antioxidants, fillers, colorants and pigments), monomers and processing aids.
