States Recognizing ASTM Training To Meet Continuing Education Requirements For Professional Engineers

Definitions:
CE - Continuing Education
CEU - Continuing Education Unit. One CEU equals 10 hours of contact time in a classroom environment excluding breaks.
CPC - Continuing Professional Competency
PDH - Professional Development Hour. One PDH equals 50 minutes of time in a learning environment. One CEU equals 10 PDHs.

Alabama: The Alabama State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors does not pre-approve or endorse any CPC activities. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit and meet the requirements of Alabama Licensure Law and Administrative Code Section 330-X-13.02.

Alaska: No continuing education requirement for PEs. In 2004, the Alaska State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors received statutory authority to implement a continuing education program. They expect to have a CE requirement for PEs renewing licenses in 2007.

Arkansas: The Arkansas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors has designated ASTM an "Approved Sponsor" of continuing education for Arkansas PE PDHs under the Rules of the Board Article 20lB.6. Active participation on an ASTM technical committee is worth 2 PDHs annually.

Florida: ASTM is an approved continuing education provider by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers--Provider # EXP00034. Active participation as an officer on an ASTM technical committee may earn up to 2 PDHs.

Georgia: The Georgia Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under Rule 180-11-.03. Active participation on an ASTM technical committee is worth 2 PDHs annually.

Idaho: The Idaho Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under IDAPA 10.01.04. Active participation on an ASTM technical committee is worth 3 PDHs.

Illinois: The Illinois Department of Professional Regulation does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training course should qualify for CPC PDH credit under Title 68, Chapter VII, Section 1380.325. Active participation on ASTM technical committees qualifies for 2 PDHs per committee with a maximum of 8 PDHs per renewal period for participation in all professional and technical societies.

Iowa: The Iowa Professional Licensing Division Engineering and Land Surveying Board does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. Louisiana: ASTM is an approved provider of continuing education by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Membership in ASTM is worth 1 PDH during each biennial renewal period.

Maine: The State of Maine Board of Registration for Professional Engineers does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under Rule 962, Chapter 2, Section 12.4.a. Active participation as an officer on an ASTM technical committee is worth 3 PDHs per biennial renewal period.

Minnesota: The Minnesota Board (AELSLAGID) does not pre-approve courses and activities, however to the best of our knowledge ASTM training courses meet the continuing education requirements in MN Statute 326.107. Final discretion is up to the Board.

Nebraska: The Nebraska Board of Engineers & Architects does not pre-approve courses for Engineering Continuing Education (ECE) credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for ECE credit under Title 110, NAC, Chapter 9.

Nevada: The Nevada State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under NAC 625.440. The Board does have a "Professional Development Hour (PDH) Resource List" on their web site. ASTM has applied to be added to that list. Ohio: PE continuing education requirements begin in 2007. PEs will require 15 PDHs for license renewal in 2008. Commission on Continuing Legal Education-RBCA course awarded 13.50 CLE hours.

Utah: Continuing education requirements will become mandatory beginning with December 2006 license renewals. The Utah Engineer and Land Surveyor Licensing Board will not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under Rule 156-22-501. Active participation on an ASTM technical committee is worth 6 PDHs per renewal period.

Washington: Washington does not have a formal continuing education requirement, however, WAC 196-27A-020(1)(d) states: "Registrants shall maintain their competency by continuing their professional development throughout their careers and shall provide opportunities for the professional development of those individuals under their supervision."

West Virginia: The West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers does not pre-approve courses for PDH credit. ASTM training courses should qualify for CPC PDH credit under Rule 7-1-10. Active participation on ASTM technical committees receives 2 PDHs.
