Implementation of new regulations for power plant emissions will increase the demand for testing of fossil fuels and plant emissions. Until now, comprehensive training on the coal characterization standards that are used every day around the world was not available outside of the laboratories that use these standards. Course Outline
This class starts immediately after the close of the ASTM Committee D05 on Coal and Coke meeting. Participants are invited to come to the D05 meeting and stay for the class.

About the Instructor
This course is taught by Dr. John T. Riley, Professor Emeritus from Western Kentucky University, where he taught advanced analytical and coal chemistry courses. Dr. Riley has served as Manager of the Coal and Fuel Characterization Laboratory, Director of the Center for Coal Science, and Director of the Materials Characterization Center of Western Kentucky University. Dr. Riley is the Vice Chairman of ASTM International Committee D05 on Coal and Coke and belongs to numerous other professional societies. He is the author or coauthor of hundreds of papers presented at scientific meetings, and 168 publications. Dr Riley received his B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Western Kentucky University and his Ph.D. in Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry from the University of Kentucky.
