E20 Temperature Measurement
Event Name: D02 June 2012 Meeting
Pre-registration requested to attend this meeting.

ABOUT THE EVENT

A Workshop on Transitioning from Mercury Thermometers to Alternative Thermometers will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 3:00p-7:00p with 3:00pm to 5:00pm being the Technical Workshop, and 5:00pm to 7:00pm being the Exhibits. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement, the workshop will be held at the Hilton in San Francisco, CA, in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee.

Objective
Over the last 6 years, NIST has actively participated in several national and international phase-out efforts to identify alternative thermometers for a broad range of measurement applications. The use of mercury thermometers has been virtually eliminated in routine hospital use, but a wide variety of regulations and test methods in the petroleum, concrete, and pharmaceuticals, to name a few, continue to specify mercury-in-glass thermometers. NIST will continue to support our stakeholders by providing technical and scientific support to find suitable alternative thermometers that meet their measurement needs. Several U.S. government, state agencies, and international organizations are driving the removal of mercury thermometers as a means to reduce mercury in the environment.
