Symposia / General Information

D18 Soil and Rock
Event Name: June 2012 Committee Week
Pre-registration requested to attend this meeting.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Workshop on ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal: Innovations in Characterizing the Mechanical and Hydrological Properties of Unsaturated Soils will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 from 9:00am-5:00pm. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the workshop will be held at the Sheraton in San Diego, CA, in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee.

Objective
ASTM Subcommittee D18.04, Hydraulic Barriers and Hydrologic Properties of Soils, in collaboration with the Geo Institute of ASCE Unsaturated Soils Committee, organized a special double issue of the ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal focused on innovations in measurement of the mechanical and hydrological properties of unsaturated soils.

This includes innovations in:

  • Soil-water retention curve and hydraulic conductivity of unsaturated soils
  • Thermal properties of unsaturated soils
  • Coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical properties of unsaturated soils
  • Instrumentation and sensors for unsaturated soils
  • Experimental characterization of stress state in unsaturated soils
  • Shear strength of unsaturated soils
  • Volume change behavior of unsaturated soils
  • Dynamic properties (e.g., shear modulus and damping, resilient modulus) of unsaturated soils

The Workshop will discuss the papers that were published in a two volume special issue of the ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal (Volume 34 Issue #5 and Volume 35 Issue #1).

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Online registration opens approximately 8 weeks before the workshop and closes June 20. There is no fee to attend the workshop.
