Interlaboratory Crosscheck Programs /

In-Service Oil Monitoring Hydraulic Fluids & Oils
Fee: $549
Schedule: May, August, November
Sample amount distributed each month: approx 250ml
ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ASTM’s In-Service Oil Monitoring Interlaboratory Crosscheck Program provides laboratories with a statistical quality assurance tool, enabling them to compare, improve, and maintain, a high level of performance in the use of ASTM methods against other laboratories worldwide.

As a program participant you will receive for each test cycle, a different sample (a representative used or in-service hydraulic fluid or oil), electronic interactive web-based data report forms and test instructions. Your laboratory performs the tests that you normally conduct within your own facility using the specified ASTM program methods. Single determinations by each laboratory are required since the program does not allow the reporting of averages of replicate determinations.

Upon completion of tests, each laboratory submits their test data electronically to ASTM-ILCP for use in generating statistical summary reports. Final reports are electronically available within a month of the data submission deadline and will contain:
  • Coded laboratory test results
  • Statistical analyses of test data
  • Charts plotting test results versus laboratory code
WHY SHOULD YOUR LABORATORY PARTICIPATE?

You will receive test results, available only to participating laboratories that will help you:
  • Monitor strengths and weaknesses of your laboratory's performance.
  • Periodically compare your test results and calculated statistical parameters with other laboratories.
  • Compare test data for a given quality parameter with laboratories using different ASTM test methods.

NOTE: Performance of all program tests in NOT a condition of participation!

TEST MATERIALS

Used or in-service hydraulic fluids or oils to be used in the program will be obtained from a single but source for each test cycle. A 250 ml bottle of used or in-service sample material will be provided to each participant each test cycle along with the appropriate instructions necessary to submit data.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Samples, test instructions, and data report sheets are distributed to each participant preceding the test month. Labs have approximately six weeks to electronically submit their test data to ASTM-ILCP. Final summary reports are electronically provided to those labs that submitted data within 20-25 business days following deadline for receipt of data.

DISTRIBUTION OF SAMPLES

Test samples are prepared and distributed for ASTM International by Clark Labs in Jefferson Hills, PA. Program Registration fees include the cost of shipping test samples to Continental U.S. participants.

IMPORTANT: Non-continental U.S. participants have the following options for receipt of samples:

  • Ship through a third party shipping agent. Provide ASTM Intl. with the complete address and phone number of your designated U.S. Trans-Shipping Agent who will be responsible for shipping samples from the U.S. to your facility. Participants are responsible for making financial and shipping arrangements to receive samples directly with your shipping agent.

  • Ship directly from sample distributor via UPS, DHL, or FEDEX. Provide ASTM with your shipping account number to cover shipping charges. Check that your carrier will deliver test materials to your location.
ABOUT ASTM COMMITTEE D02

Committee D02 on Petroleum and Lubricants has 1500 members and 600 published ASTM standards. This committee provides the technical direction for the ILCP program. Test information generated through the program is utilized by Committee D02 to improve standard tests. Data submitted to Committee D02 from the ASTM-ILCP are coded to maintain lab confidentiality.
