Subcommittee on Fabric Test Methods to Host Surface Measurement Technology Exhibition

ASTM Subcommittee D13.60 on Fabric Test Methods will host a Fabric Surface Measurement Technology Exhibition during the ASTM October Committee Week in Washington, D.C. Subcommittee D13.60, which is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D13 on Textiles, is seeking the participation of software vendors of image analysis systems for measuring surface defects. The exhibition will be of interest to those involved with measurement of surface wear of fabrics.

The exhibition is scheduled for Oct. 4, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m, and will include presentations from image analysis vendors. The length of the presentations will be determined by the number of participants. Following the presentations, the current imaging technology will be summarized and there will be a moderated question and answer session. The remainder of the exhibition will be devoted to concurrent demonstrations by individual vendors.

A task group of ASTM Subcommittee D13.60 has focused over the past several years on the improvement of measurement and evaluation of fabric surface wear, specifically the problems of abrasion and pilling. The task group, which is composed of members from all segments of the textile industry, government, and academia, provides a forum for discussion of the many issues associated with standard test methods for measuring resistance to abrasion and pilling.
