ASTM International in Japan and China

Representatives of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), the Korean Standards Association (KSA), and Korean industry and academia visited ASTM International in July as part of their involvement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Standards in Trade (SiT) Workshops. Teresa Cendrowska (seated, center), ASTM director of external relations, hosted the group; Gum Ho Choe, Ph.D., liaison officer of KATS and guest researcher, Global Standards and Information Program, who coordinated the visit, is pictured left of Cendrowska. ASTM staff provided an overview of the Society and information on ASTM International’s standards development process, its electronic tools, and training activities. The SiT workshops are a major activity of the Global Standards Program and Information in the NIST Office of Standards Services. The Workshop for the Korean visitors was designed to provide timely information on practices in standards and conformity assessment. Eleven participants were introduced to U.S. technology and principles in standards development, conformity assessment, and metrology.
