Manufacturers Sought to Develop Battery Standard

ASTM International seeks manufacturers of separators, test equipment, and batteries to develop a standard bench-testing method for alkaline separator/materials used in processing and performance of alkaline batteries.

Part of ASTM Committee D09 on Electrical and Electronic Insulating Materials, the task group wants to establish uniform global testing of separator materials. A standard for processing and performance of alkaline batteries will provide a common test method for purchasing raw material, says George C. Zguris, technology director/senior scientist, Hollingsworth and Vose Company, West Groton, Mass.

Zguris will co-chair the task group with Gary Thrasher, senior technology engineer, Eveready Battery Company, Inc., Westlake, Ohio. They encourage participation in this activity from any interested individual. ASTM membership is not required to draft the standard.
