Prevention of Sports-Related Concussions Emphasized at November
Workshop
A Sports-Related Concussions Workshop will be offered Tuesday,
Nov. 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., by ASTM Subcommittee F08.51 on Medical
Aspects and Biomechanics during the meetings of Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities, Nov. 14-17 at the Rosen Centre
Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
Types of brain trauma that can result in concussions, the mechanism
of concussions, and the use of equipment and techniques that can
decrease the risk for cerebral concussions will be defined. A
speakers list and round table discussions are in the planning
stage. Speakers appear by invitation; several openings remain.
Potential speakers should contact the workshop coordinator, Alan
B. Ashare, M.D., who chairs ASTM Subcommittee F08.51, as well
as the U.S. Hockey Safety and Protective Equipment Committee.
Pre-registration is not required. A small admission fee (waived
for students) will be charged.
