Committee on Consumer Products Approves New Subcommittee on Lead in Children’s Vinyl Products

ASTM International Committee F15 on Consumer Products invites
all interested parties to participate in a new subcommittee, F15.62 on Lead in Vinyl Children’s Products. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requested Committee F15 to explore ways to eliminate or significantly reduce children’s exposure to lead in consumer products.
The parameters of the new subcommittee were discussed at an organizational meeting in August. The initial goal of the subcommittee is to develop standardized test methods for exposure to and total lead content in vinyl products for children. Bibs, lunchboxes, juvenile furniture, public and residential playground equipment, children’s clothing and strollers are among the items that F15.62 may consider in their development of proposed new standards. //
