Volunteers Sought to Develop Standard for Synthetic Hockey Fields

Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities will develop an ASTM standard performance test for synthetic hockey fields. According to committee chairman Roger Schmidt, no standard exists for these surfaces.

Manufacturers of synthetic and natural turf, testers, and general interest representatives will develop the standard under ASTM Subcommittee F08.65 on Artificial Turf Surfaces and Systems. The subcommittee invites field-hockey coaches, manufacturers, architects, and others to join this activity, says chairman Richard Breland, consultant, Breland Consultant and Service, Marietta, Ga.

The International Hockey Federation has guidelines for artificial fields and the ASTM subcommittee will attempt to incorporate IHF guidance in the ASTM performance standard, Schmidt says.
