New Laboratory Instruments for Coatings Industry to be Demonstrated at ASTM Mini-Symposium

The mini-symposium, “New Developments in Paint Testing Instruments,” will be presented Tuesday, Jan. 23, 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., by ASTM Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications, in conjunction with the committee’s semi-annual meeting.

Areas that should be considered for ASTM Committee D01 method development or improvement will be identified. Current distributors of instruments to the coatings industry will present physical testing (excluding appearance measurement), product instrumentation, software, and service which, in their opinion, deserves ASTM D01 action.

The program will benefit:
• Specification writers;
• Laboratory managers;
• Quality control managers; and
• Chairs of D01 subcommittees and task groups.

Twenty-minute presentations will be given on product(s) that indicate a need for ASTM D01 action, and the impact this action will have on the coatings industry will be described. BYK-Gardner USA, Columbia, Md., will demonstrate a wave scan with distinctness of image function, as well as a cupping tester. Paul N. Gardner Co., Pompano Beach, Fla., will present a thin film analyzer, and Elektro-Physik USA, Arlington Heights, Ill., an instrument for nondestructively measuring individual layers in a multi-coat system on metal substrates. Additional instruments from the presenting distributors with potential interest to attendees will also be displayed.

The event is free and open to the public.
