World Standards Week to Be Held in September

World Standards Week will be held Sept. 21-24 in Arlington, Va., and the U.S. celebration of World Standards Day will be held Sept. 23 in Washington, D.C. Papers for World Standards Day Competition Due in July

Entries for the 2010 World Standards Day Paper Competition, “Standards for Accessibility,” are due July 23. The competition, sponsored by the Standards Engineering Society and the U.S. World Standards Day Planning Committee, will consider papers that use specific examples of how standards and conformity assessment programs promote accessibility in any form.

James M. Shannon of NFPA to Keynote at August SES Conference

Highlighting the Aug. 16-17 Annual Conference of the Standards Engineering Society will be keynote speaker James M. Shannon, former Massachusetts congressman and current president and CEO of the National Fire Protection Association. The conference, to be held in Boston, Mass., will focus on the theme, “Strategic Leadership in the Development and Use of Standards.” The program includes seven sessions and will be followed by two professional development courses. Award Entries Requested by the Industrial Fabrics Foundation

Entries for the Innovation Award of the Industrial Fabrics Foundation are due July 16. Specialty fabrics companies are invited to submit an entry in one of three categories: fabric, hardware or machinery; end product; or process. SME Seeks Awards Nominations

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers requests nominations — by August 1 — for the 2011 International Honor Awards, the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award and the Award of Merit. The Honor Awards recognize exceptional success in manufacturing management, research, productivity, manufacturing education or service to SME, and more. The Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award honors engineers age 35 and under for exceptional accomplishments in technical publication, patents or technical professional society leadership. The Award of Merit recognizes SME members who have made valued and balanced contributions to SME activities and growth.

Hospitality Design Green Day Conference to Be Held May 18

On May 18, the Hospitality Design Green Day Conference, which is focused on idea exchange, education and trends related to sustainable design and operations, will be held in Las Vegas, Nev. The winner of the Sustainable Suite Design Competition, presented by the U.S. Green Building Council in conjunction with the American Society of Interior Designers and NEWH Inc. – The Hospitality Industry Network, will also be presented.
