March/April 2008 Key Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems Documents Now ASTM Standards
“These are significant documents for the proper specification of EIFS and are used by architects, designers and specifiers,” says Stephan E. Klamke, EIFS Industry Member Association and E06.58 member. E 2568 covers PB EIFS, which are defined as exterior, non-bearing wall coverings providing a weather-resistant exterior envelope on walls required to be combustible or noncombustible, fire-resistance-rated or non-fire-resistance-rated. In addition, the system is described as being applied over insulation board, an adhesive or mechanical attachment of the insulation board to a substrate, or both, glass fiber reinforcing mesh, a base coat on the face of the insulation board and a textured protective finish coat. The test methods in E 2570 apply to trowel, roller or spray-applied water-resistive barrier coatings that are applied over exterior sheathing prior to application of EIFS or EIFS with drainage wall claddings.
