2004 Officers Conference
by Len Morrissey
ASTM International is proud to announce that we will conduct the 2004 Officers Conference Sept. 13-14 at ASTM Headquarters in West Conshohocken, Pa. The Officers Conference is a free event open to all committee officers, subcommittee chairs, and those interested in learning more about ASTM. This event offers committee leaders the opportunity to attend a series of modules presented by staff describing various aspects of ASTM and the tools available to help you and your committee maximize the effectiveness of the ASTM process.
Attendees will be able to select from over 14 modules conducted in one- and two-hour sessions. These short courses are structured to provide valuable information to assist new officers and subcommittee chairs in performing their roles and reinforce and refresh the knowledge base of our experienced officers. Among the sessions to be offered are:
Electronic tools for creating and revising standards;
Developing items for ballot;
Handling negative votes or comments;
Officer and subcommittee chairs duties and responsibilities;
ASTM in the national and international arena;
New activity development and strategic planning;
Technical and professional training, proficiency testing, and symposia; and
In addition to participating in the focused presentations given by staff, many past attendees have noted that the Officers Conference provides additional benefits, including the opportunity to interact with officers from other ASTM technical committees and share common experiences and potential solutions to complex issues.
Registration for the conference is available here. In addition, notifications will be sent to committee officers and subcommittee chairs. The Web site contains descriptions of each module and enables registrants to select modules based on individual interest and needs. A tailored schedule of events will be prepared for each person who registers to attend.
Your committee is looking to you for guidance and leadership. As the 2004 Officers Conference chair, I encourage you to join us for this exciting opportunity to learn more about ASTM and the resources that are available to assist you in helping your committee meet its standardization objectives.
