ASTM International Carbon Black Committee to Convene in Italy in April

Invited technical presentations and highlights from the current work of technical subcommittees will make up the April 25-28 meetings of Committee D24 on Carbon Black in Stresa, Italy.

Professor Jean-Baptiste Donnet, professor emeritus at Université de Haute Alsace in Mulhouse, France, will speak about Carbon Black Dispersion on Rubber, and Brian Pittenger of Jenike and Johanson in Westford, Mass. will speak on Carbon Black Conveying Issues during the three-day meeting, with related workshops also planned.

Presentations about D24 will be made the first full day of the gathering. In addition, the standards work of the D24 subcommittees on absorptive properties, adsorptive properties, microscopy and morphology, nomenclature, non-carbon black components, pellet properties, rubber testing and sampling and statistics will continue. The link between D24 and its counterpart in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will also be covered.

The developer of widely used industry standards, ASTM Committee D24 develops Standard Reference Blacks that are standard compounding ingredients used to achieve better agreement with standard ASTM recipes and inter-laboratory test comparison. D24 also maintains D 1765, Classification System for Carbon Black Used in Rubber Products.
