For several months, ASTMs senior staff have been planning an
internal reorganization to better position ASTM to face the challenges
of developing standards in the global trade environment of the
21st century. As part of this reorganization, we are pleased to
announce that several ASTM staff members have taken on new responsibilities.
Publications and Marketing Division
Drew Azzara, formerly assistant vice president in the Technical
Committee Operations Division, has been named the assistant vice
president of the newly formed Corporate Marketing and Development
Department in the Publications and Marketing Division. In his
new position, Azzara will oversee Corporate Development, Corporate
Communications, and Customer Relations and Sales.
Pat Picariello has been promoted to the newly created position
of director, Corporate Development, reporting to Drew Azzara in
the Corporate Marketing and Development Department in the Publications
and Marketing Division. In his new position, Picariello will be
responsible for exploring, planning, organizing, and managing
all aspects of new activity development and outsourcing service
areas. Picariello had been a staff manager for several ASTM technical
committees.
George Zajdel, formerly manager of Electronic Publications, has
been named to the position of manager, Sales and Customer Support.
Zajdel will lead a team of representatives assigned with the mission
of marketing and selling ASTM products and services proactively
based on customers specific needs, providing technical support,
and building and maintaining strong, healthy customer relations.
Reporting to Zajdel will be Tracey Beckett, Ileane Smith, and
Maryann Zamorski. Beckett will continue to run ASTMs Information
Center, and will now also coordinate customer support. Smith,
formerly the administrative assistant in the Publications Production
Department, has been promoted to the position of account representative.
In this newly created position, Smith will be responsible for
establishing and following sales leads and assisting current customers
with their accounts. Zamorski will act as account administrator,
overseeing online subscriptions to standards, journals, and other
technical publications.
Vernice Mayer, who was most recently a senior standards editor,
has been promoted to the position of manager, Standards II in
the Publishing Services Department. In this post, she will be
responsible for leading the editorial staff responsible for the
various publications produced through the Standards Department
including ASTM separates, the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, compilations,
custom booklets, and other publications.
Mayer replaces Paula Fluehr, who has accepted the newly created
position of manager, Output Support, also in the Publishing Services
Department. In her new position, Fluehr will lead and manage the
production staff responsible for the various publications produced
through the editorial departments within Publishing Services including
both print and CD-based publications.
A new Graphics Arts Department has been created. Lesley West,
formerly the ASTM senior graphic designer, has been promoted to
be the new departments director, where she will oversee two graphic
artists and direct all graphics art services for ASTM.
Technical Committee Operations Division
In the Technical Committee Operations (TCO) Division, Kathie Morgan
has accepted the newly created position of general manager, Technical
Committee Support. She will oversee meetings and special events,
ASTM interface with ANSI and ISO/IEC, committee services, TCO
computer services, and the newly created position of standards
development editor. Morgan had been a director overseeing several
ASTM committees and staff managers. She will retain her committee
management assignments.
Kathy Peters, fomerly a standards editor in the Publishing Services
Department, has accepted the newly created position of standards
development editor, in which she will be responsible for providing
editorial support for new standards development activities, major
revisions and new standards as well as reviewing the quality of
scopes for the new work item registration program and other editorial
related projects.
Jim Olshefsky has been promoted to the new position of director,
Committee Services, reporting to Kathie Morgan. Most recently
a staff manager in TCO, Olshefsky is now responsible for standards
coordination, committee administrative support, and TCO technology
support. He will retain some of his committee management assignments.
Tim Brooke and Dan Smith have each been promoted to the position
of director in the Standards Development Department in TCO. In
their new positions, Brooke and Smith will continue to manage
some technical committees and will oversee several staff managers.
Both directors were staff managers, managing the activities of
several ASTM technical committees.
Global Cooperation
Teresa Cendrowska, formerly a technical committee staff manager
and most recently the manager of New Business Development, has
accepted the position of director, External Relations. In this
newly created position, she will work with Vice President of Global
Cooperation Kitty Kono in understanding and resolving the needs
of U.S. government in terms of voluntary consensus standards,
and promoting ASTM International, its capabilities, and services
through active liaison activities with the U.S. Congress and government
agencies and to other national and international organizations.
In this capacity, Cendrowska will also serve as ASTMs Washington
representative, replacing Kono who held that position until her
promotion to vice president last year.
In addition to staff changes connected with the reorganization,
ASTM welcomes Joe Hugo, Joe Koury, and Christine Sierk to the
staff.
Joe Hugo joins ASTM as a staff manager in the Standards Development
Department in TCO. He comes to us from DaVita Inc., an outpatient
healthcare clinic in Philadelphia, Pa., where he served as facility
administrator. Joe also served as manager of Technical Services
and Purchasing at Delaware Valley Dialysis in Philadelphia.
Joe Koury has taken the position of manager in the ASTM Meetings
Department, replacing Sandy Powers who retired earlier this year.
Joe comes to us from McGettigan Partners in Philadelphia where
he served as meetings/events planner. Joe also served as meetings
and events planner and was responsible for communications at Fernley
and Fernley, a multiple association management organization in
Philadelphia.
Christi Sierk joins ASTM as a staff manager in the Standards Development
Department in TCO. She most recently worked with Doyle Consulting
Group, Inc. in Philadelphia where she was junior consultant. Christi
also worked at Independence Blue Cross where she served as incentive
analyst and marketing systems coordinator. At Main Line Health
and Fitness, Christi worked as sales and service manager. //
