Round-Robin Participants Sought for B368 CASS Test
Subcommittee B08.10 on Test Methods has initiated a round robin to study mass loss
data for nickel panels.
The subcommittee seeks round-robin participants who perform the
CASS Test in ASTM B 368, Standard Test Method for Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt
Spray (Fog) Testing (CASS Test). Nickel panels will be provided
and participants will be asked to run a 22-hour test and return
their data to the program coordinator, says ASTM member Cindy
Meade, a marketing director for National Exposure Testing, Sylvania,
Ohio. Meade will provide the nickel panels for use in the study.
Participants will be asked to collect data and complete a detailed
questionnaire. ASTM membership is not required.
Theres a lot of controversy over the nickel panel mass loss
in the standard, says Meade, who chairs ASTM Subcommittee G01.05
on Laboratory Corrosion Tests in Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals. Questions have been raised about variability
from chamber to chamber, she says. The committee will use resulting
study data to improve and clarify the standard.
