New Radiological Hazards Subcommittee
Return to Feature

New Subcommittee F23.70 on Radiological Hazards was formed in June 2003 in response to a need to develop standards related to radiological protective clothing. While there is a separate ASTM Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications, no other standards group currently provides specific test methods, practices, or specifications related to protective clothing for radiological protection. At this time, the subcommittee’s principal interest is in ionizing radiological protection, which includes, as a minimum, alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, and X-rays. Affected industries include the nuclear power generation, nuclear site remediation and disposal, medical diagnostic and treatment services, radiological laboratories, and protection of personnel against terrorism involving weapons of mass destruction.
