Committee C01 Flow Test Released as
Separate Test Method

ASTM Committee C01 on Cement currently has two standards concerning flow—a description of the flow table, C 230, Specification for Flow Table for Use in Tests of Hydraulic Cement, and a flow test method as a section of C 109, Test Method for Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement Mortars (Using 2-in. or [50-mm] Cube Specimens).

The tests fall under the jurisdiction of different subcommittees within Committee C01. Standard C 230 is maintained by Subcommittee C01.22 on Workability and Standard C 109 by Subcommittee C01.27 on Strength. “To make the test method more clear and to make the jurisdiction more sensible, the flow method from C 109 was recently made a separate test, C 1437, Test Method for Flow of Hydraulic Cement Mortar, under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee C01.22 on Workability,” said Subcommittee C01.22 Chairman Leslie Struble, Ph.D., professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Illinois. It is anticipated that the flow test will be removed from C 109 and that other standards and specifications citing the flow test will gradually shift to C 1437.
