Committee on Gaseous Fuels Forms Subcommittee on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells

ASTM International Committee D03 on Gaseous Fuels has formed a new subcommittee, D03.14 on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells. Activity at recent D03 meetings indicated that a gap existed in serving the needs of gaseous fuel stakeholders in the fuel cell industry. Because of this, Committee D03 considered and passed a clarification in its scope to state clearly that standards relating to natural gas, reformulated natural gas, hydrogen and other fuel cell supply gases are of interest to the committee. The clarification of D03’s scope led to the organization of Subcommittee D03.14.

Subcommittee D03.14 will be responsible for developing standards relating to hydrogen used in energy generation or as feed gas to low, medium and high temperature fuel cells and other gaseous fuels used in low, medium and high temperature fuel cells.
Anthony B. Estrada, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, has been named the first chair of D03.14. The subcommittee is seeking stakeholders in the hydrogen and fuel cell industries to participate in activities that will include the crafting of standards, protocols, specifications and guidelines impacting hydrogen as a fuel and fuel-cell feed gas.
