Call for Participants for InterLab Thermal-Insulation Testing

ASTM Task Group C 739 invites participation in round robins to determine precision and bias statements for two standards developed in ASTM Committee C16 on Thermal Insulation. To participate, contact task group chairman Herb Harney, manager, Nu-Wool, Co., Inc., Jenison, Mich. (See contact information below.)

NAV-LAB accredited, or manufacturers’ in-house quality testing labs are sought to develop precision and bias for the Water Vapor Sorption Test Method in ASTM C 739, Standard Specification for Cellulosic Fiber (Wood-Base) Loose-Fill Thermal Insulation. A humidity chamber is needed to run the method; the task group can provide the apparatus box used for the specimen.

“Three types of cellulose fiber will be tested,” Harney said. “CIMA, the Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association, has sponsored the round robin and hired R&D Services to manage the process.”

A second round robin will determine precision and bias for ASTM C 1485, Standard Test Method for Critical Radiant Flux of Exposed Attic Floor Insulation Using an Electric Radiant Heat Energy Source. Testing requires a specimen pan. CIMA is also sponsoring this test with R&D Services as manager.
