Pigments and Extenders Specialists Needed to Maintain and Develop Standards

On behalf of Subcommittee D01.31 on Pigments, Chairman Bob Schiller is inviting members of the pigments and extenders industries to lead task groups that maintain or develop standards for:

• Extenders, such as clays, calcium carbonate, silica, etc.; and
• Organic pigments, such as phthalocyanine green/blue, etc.

The standards define testing and performance of materials used in paints and other areas.

Chemical engineers, chemists, or other technical personal are encouraged to join these activities with members of the subcommittee, which falls under ASTM Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications.

Schiller, a technical manager with Kerr McGee Chemical LLS, Oklahoma City, Okla., said volunteers are urgently needed to maintain an existing ASTM standard for phthalocyanine green which will be pulled from the books if not maintained.
