Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award - Guidelines

    FRANCIS L. LA QUE MEMORIAL AWARD

    The Francis L. La Que Memorial Award is presented not more frequently than once a year to a member, or former member, of Committee G0l on Corrosion of Metals who has made significant contributions to Committee G0l and to the field of corrosion testing and evaluation.

    The Award is established in memory of Dr. Francis L. La Que who served as the first chairman of Committee G0l, was a Fellow, Honorary Member, and Past Chairman of the Board of Directors. His career spanned over 57 years, continually demonstrating his outstanding abilities as an author and lecturer, executive and engineer, spokesman and advisor.

    CRITERIA

    • Active membership in the Committee, substantial contribution to the corrosion standardization process, and wise and valuable participation in the deliberations of the Committee.
    • A high level of technical competence evidenced by the authorship of technical papers chapters, books, encyclopedia articles, and the like plus a substantial body or original technical output and its comprehensive presentation.
    • A high level of integrity exhibited by honesty and fairness, and the recognition of professional responsibility to the community.
    • A willing sharing of knowledge and experience with others in both the formal activities of publications and in the formal interchange with others.

    RULES GOVERNING THE AWARD

    • The nomination shall be made by Committee G0l Awards Committee at the spring meeting of the Committee. The nomination shall be accompanied by documentation of the candidate's qualifications for the award.
    • The award shall not be given if no qualified candidates are identified by the Awards Committee.
    • The Chairman of Committee G0l Awards Committee shall submit the nomination of the candidate to the G01 Executive Committee in Executive Session. (The nominee shall not be present). The nomination shall be approved by at least two-thirds of the members present.
      • No records of the discussion of the award shall be kept and the minutes of the Executive Committee meeting shall reference the decision only if the vote for a nominee is favorable.
      • The award shall be presented to the nominee at a regular function of the Main Committee.
      • The Awards Administrator will be notified by the Committee or ASTM staff manager no later than two months prior to the date of presentation.

    AWARD TO RECIPIENTS

    The Francis L. La Que Memorial Award shall consist of a nickel alloy plaque with matching nameplates, which will be mounted on the wall in Marshall Hall of the ASTMHeadquartersBuilding. The recipient will be presented with a wall plaque.

    The headquarters plaque will read:

    In recognition of outstanding contributions to Committee G01 and to the field of

    corrosion testing and evaluation as exemplified by the distinguished

    accomplishments in this field by Francis L. La Que.
