Anthony DeBellis Award - Guidelines

    THE ANTHONY DEBELLIS AWARD 

    The award was established in 1988 in memory of Anthony DeBellis for his long time active participation as a member of Committee E28 on Mechanical Testing and as Secretary of E28.06 on Hardness Testing. 

    Criteria 

    • The award is international in scope (United States citizenship or residence is not required) and the recipient need not be a member of Committee E28 or ASTM. 

    • The award may recognize a single outstanding contribution such as a book, technical paper or new test method development. 

    • It may be presented in recognition of long time contributions to hardness testing or the standardization of hardness test methods. 

    RULES GOVERNING THE AWARD 

    • Nominations shall be received by the DeBellis Award section of E28.92 on Awards, which will make all decisions concerning the presentation. 

    • The DeBellis award section shall be chaired by the E28.92 chairman and shall consist of not less than three nor greater than five members. In addition to the chairman, this section shall include the chairman of subcommittee E28.06 on Indentation of Hardness Testing and the Chairman of Section E28.94.03 (U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 164/SC3 on Hardness Testing). 

    • The chairman shall have the authority to appoint, for a given award period up to two additional members. This is to provide additional expertise when required and also recognizes the fact that the E28.06 chairman and E28.94.03 chairman my sometimes be the same person. 

    • If, in the opinion of the awards committee, no person is worthy of the award, none will be made that year. 

     Format of the Award 

    A wall plaque will consist of bronze and formica with matching nameplates, which will be mounted at ASTM Headquarters. 

    Each recipient of the DeBellis Award shall receive a photo-etched medal with a likeness to Anthony DeBellis and the following inscription:

    Presented by ASTM COMMITTEE E28 ON MECHANICAL TESTING

     In recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of hardness testing

    FINANCING OF THE AWARD  

    Funds have been donated by US hardness testing equipment companies for the establishment and continuation of this award. These funds are deposited in the activities account of Committee E28.
