Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award
The Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award is presented not more frequently than once a year to the author or authors of the best paper concerning clay shale, concrete or sand-lime, units or masonry published in the English language.
The award was established in 1987 by Committee C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units in honor of Alan H. Yorkdale, ASTM Fellow, former Secretary of C15, member of the Executive Committee of C15, Chairman of C15.02 for 18 years and a leading proponent of the advancement of masonry engineering and research in his 27 years of service with the Brick Institute of America.
Rules Governing the Award
The award shall be administered by the Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award Task Group. Appointments of the Task Group members shall be for three-year staggered terms. The Task Group shall consist of six members selected from the membership of Committee C15. The Chairman of the Task Group shall be appointed by the Chairman of Committee Cl5 and shall serve for a term of one year. The initial Task Group shall consist of six members, two appointed for a term of one year, two appointed for a term of two years, and two appointed for a term of three years.
Each year the Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award Task Group shall review papers eligible for the Award. These papers shall be the bonafide production of those who contribute to them and shall have been published in the English language.
Between June 30 and October 30 of a given year, the Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award Task Group shall review the eligible papers, which have been published during the period from July 1 of the preceding year to June 30 of a given year. Preprints shall not be construed as publications.
The Task Group shall select the best paper and advise the Awards Coordinator of the Society of its selection by 15 December of the year of the award.
If, in the opinion of the Task Group none of the papers are qualified, no award shall be presented that year.
The Executive Committee of C15 shall have authority to decide any questions not specifically covered by these rules and to make recommendations for modification.
Format of the Award
The Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award shall consist of a walnut plaque and, if possible, a cash honorarium.
Financing of the Award
Committee C15 members and other organizations finance the award through voluntary contributions.
