Abstract
Four selected case studies are described to demonstrate the detection and identification of anabolic steroids in dosage forms as typically encountered in the forensic laboratory. General analytical schemes are presented to provide conclusive identification of anabolic steroids and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) as required by the California Uniform Controlled Substances Act. Methodology designed to simplify and reduce analysis time, and yet comply with the legal reporting requirements for anabolic steroids, is reviewed.
