Self-Mutilation and Private Accident Insurance
Bonte, W
Privatdozent, Doctor of Medicine, Institute of Legal Medicine, University of Goettingen, Federal Republic of Germany.

Abstract
During the past few years in the Federal Republic of Germany, there has been a continuous increase in deliberate self-inflicted damage with the aim of defrauding insurance companies. This paper concerns itself with amputations of the finger(s) caused by axes, electric saws, and blunt force. The difficulty of proving an intentional injury is shown, and suggestions for a procedure for making a report are given.
