Abstract
We have generated a local STR database for the predominant population groups represented in Connecticut. DNA was extracted from known blood samples from at least 175 unrelated African-American, Caucatian, and Hispanic individuals using the QIAGEN QIAamp blood kit (1). DNA typing was performed using 1 to 2 ng of genomic DNA (25 µL reaction volume) and automated fluorescent detection according to the manufacturer's protocol (2). Statistical analysis was performed as previously reported (3). Exact tests showed two departures from HWE expectations in the Hispanic population at D7S820 and D8S1179. After applying the Bonferonni correction for the number of tests, no significant departures were noted (3). The complete data set is available upon request.
