Abstract

The trend toward higher steam temperatures has increased the possibility of fires from oil leaks in turbine systems. This has stimulated investigation of fire-resistant fluids for this application. Various chemical-base fluids are currently being studied in the laboratory, and at least one type is undergoing field trial. There is a need for development of suitable test methods for evaluating these fluids. Also, the use of such fluids will involve new design and operational considerations. The ASTM may be able to contribute to the resolution of these matters.
