Table IV. Values for Calculating Viscosity Index from Saybolt Universal Viscosity

Source

This table gives the values of L and D for calculating Viscosity Index from Saybolt Universal viscosities in the range of 40.0 to 350 sec. The values given are based upon Table II of the Standard Method for Calculating Viscosity Index (ASTM Designation: D 567), and are for substitution in Eq 2 of Method D 567. Values of L and D not listed, but which are within the range given in Table IV, are obtained by linear interpolation. The Viscosity Index scale is sensitive to small percentage changes in viscosity at lower viscosity levels. Because the Saybolt Universal viscosity method does not have the precision required for good reproducibility of Viscosity Index at the lower viscosity levels, it is recommended that kinematic viscosity measurements be used for calculating Viscosity Index at viscosity levels below 40.0 sec Saybolt Universal at 210 F.
