Abstract

A critical evaluation is presented of a system that has been used to obtain compression stress-strain data for sheet materials at elevated temperatures. Descriptions of the supporting apparatus for the specimen, the method of heating, specimen design, and the method of strain measurement are presented. Particular emphasis is centered on the effect of lateral support afforded the specimen by the fixture. Illustrations showing the effect of modifications in the method of support are included, as well as some typical experimental results.
