High-Temperature Testing of Adhesives for Aircraft Structural Application

Source

A means of high-temperature evaluation of adhesives has been established. From these evaluations usable design data are obtained. In this work it was felt that the following points were of utmost importance: 1. Intelligent use of adhesives requires basic design data. While the test data obtained in this report are applicable only to the test constructions used, by running a very few additional tests and extrapolating curves, they can probably be adapted to a large number of other constructions as well. 2. The limitations of the adhesive material should be firmly established, particularly in regard to elevated temperature. 3. It is necessary to evaluate the material in terms of the desired application, whether as a metal-to-metal bond or as a honeycomb core-to-face bond.
