Abstract

Little basic work has been done on the sliding properties of electrodeposited metals despite the practical importance of such coatings. For example, most slip ring, encoder, and separable connector contacts for space systems are plated with precious metals, and the reliability of these components to a large extent depends on maintaining the integrity of the plate.
