Abstract

A method of grading asphalt cements on the basis of viscosity at 140 F and characterizing the materials by means of absolute viscosity values at other temperatures is described. It is believed that this procedure will substantially eliminate the field problems resulting from variations in the properties of asphalt when supplied by different manufacturers. It will also lead into a better understanding and control of the properties of asphalt as they may relate to pavement performance.
