The development of a high-temperature tensile-loaded shear specimen configuration and test technique is described. Photographs of the strain patterns obtained through the use of photoelasticity are given, and the strain analyses in the elastic range are included. Room-temperature test results for brittle materials and also for ductile materials are tabulated and compared with the results obtained from conventional punch-out type shear tests on the same material.
