Abstract

This paper includes a discussion of the testing of soil from the point of view of the spread foundations of structures and foundations for air strip runways, with particular reference to the use of load tests since this is the primary purpose of the present symposium. Load tests are also applied to pile foundations but this type of load test is somewhat outside of the scope of the symposium and accordingly the subject is not treated in this paper.
