Abstract

Asphaltic materials have been successfully used as waterproofers and adhesives for many years. ASTM specifications for asphaltic materials date back to the earliest years of the society. Most authorities, however, admit that asphalt technology is still more art than science. Although asphalt technology is hampered by several testing procedures and theories that are more traditional than factual and scientific, these procedures and theories have persisted because nothing better has been offered in replacement.
