Abstract

Numerical solutions of the flow through a model fibrous filter are used to study electrically enhanced filtration. It is shown that numerical modelling, or simulation, has advantages over both the analytical and the experimental approach. Particle trajectories are presented, and filter efficiencies are predicted and compared to experimental data. The dendritic structure of the particle deposit is also investigated. Differences in dendrite structure seen in the laboratory between enhanced and non-enhanced collection are also simulated.
