In September, 1943, Group 13 of Subcommittee IX was organized under the chairmanship of J. J. Bradley, Jr., to survey methods available for the analysis and testing of resins intended for coating applications. The survey demonstrated the need for the modification of many existing procedures, and for the development of new methods to cope with the rapidly changing compositions arising from the incorporation of new raw materials in the coating formulations. At the Buffalo meeting of the Society in June, 1946, Subcommittee XI was organized, under the chairmanship of the late Joseph J. Mattiello, as a positive step toward filling these needs.
