Abstract

The words “pore” and “void” are used interchangeably in this paper and refer to the space unoccupied by solid matter in the piece of aggregate. The terms do not refer to the space between pieces of aggregate, which is the “void space” measured by the ASTM test for voids in aggregates,2 nor to the pore space in concrete which is discussed by Verbeck in another paper in this publication.
