Abstract

Ready-mixed concrete is a processed material which, in a plastic and unhardened state, is sold as a finished product ready for use. It now consumes more than one third of all of the cement manufactured in the United States, and that ratio is increasing, thus emphasizing the importance of understanding its control and use. Its quality depends on the ingredients, their proportions, and the thoroughness with which they are combined. Ready-mixed concrete is perishable; it will not remain in the plastic and unhardened state beyond a limited time, the exact period of which depends upon circumstances.
